Watch Over Me

Series 1

The first series was produced with support from the BBC Broadcast and starred actress Lynda Bellingham.

It was created by Sharon Doughty with the parents of the murdered Surrey teenager Milly Dowler. Milly was abducted and murdered on her way home from school and her parents felt their daughter had been let down by the school.

Series 2

The second series of Watch Over Me was created by Sharon Doughty with the parents of George Atkinson who was accidentally an air gun (ball bearing (BB) gun) while playing in his garden with another boy. Sharon worked with John Hoggarth Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre to produce and write the soap opera. It was researched with young people and police forces across the country. George’s mother and family wanted other parents to know how dangerous air guns were. The police also wanted young people to understand that carrying imitation weapons or air rifles in a public place was an offence and not harmless fun. The second series of the soap was launched by Home Secretary David Blunkett.

Series 3

The third series of Watch Over Me was created by Sharon Doughty with the father of Damilola Taylor. Sharon worked with John Hoggarth Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre to produce and write the soap opera. It was researched with young people and police forces across the country. Richard Taylor wanted other parents to know the risks of carrying knives and the consequences. The Metropolitan Police assisted with the filming and the soap was launched by Richard Taylor and Dot Com patron Lynda Bellingham.

Series 4

The fourth series of Watch Over Me was created by Sharon Doughty with the parents of the murdered London teenager Jimmy Mizen. Sharon worked with John Hoggarth Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre to produce and write the soap opera. It was researched with young people and police forces across the country. The soap was launched at New Scotland Yard by the Metropolitan Police. Commander Tony Eastaugh held the press conference with Barry and Margaret Mizen, Sharon Doughty and John Hoggarth who created the resources andTV presenter Ben Shephard. The soap was made available to all schools in the country. The story lines covered issues of murder, hate crime, extremism, sex and relationships.
